Can Article Writing Drive Traffic to My Site?

Congratulations, you have just opened your business and eagerly are awaiting the money to start flowing into your account. I have good news and bad news for you.

The good news is that you can make money at your business; the bad news is that like any other business you will have to work for it.

An Internet business is very similar to a brick and mortar business. To sell your product people have to come to your store or your web site. In a brick and mortar business you would use advertising. The same applies for the Internet, you need advertising. However, the traditional cost of advertising can often break a start-up financial resources. The goal of this article is to give you a strategy that will enable you to start with few financial resources and build your campaigns as your business grows.

That strategy is right in front of you as you read. This article is your first strategy. Article writing and submission serves several purposes:

  • Places your name and your web site in front of the public.
  • Establishes you as an expert in your field.
  • Requires little or no capital outlay.

The next question is “What do I write about?” The answer is simple, write about your business. After all you have started your business because you have some knowledge of the field or industry. Believe it or not the world wants to know your thoughts.

There are some dos and don’ts

Do make your articles general about your industry and don’t emphasize your business. The goal is to provide information establishing you as the expert. Don’t advertise your web site. Many article submission sites will reject your ads if they you are blatantly pointing readers to your site.

Do keep your articles around 350 to 600 words. This article has 544 words. Don’t write the next version of the Great Novel. You want your article to be read and most people do not like to read long articles.

Do add links to your site where applicable. Use words or combination of words that would be a natural link to your site. For example in a related article about Internet Advertising we used the term free advertising to link to our site. Don’t go overboard with links or use links that specifically name your site. As in all things moderation is usually the best strategy.

The final step in this strategy is to publish your articles. We use three article submission sites

  • - EzineArticle.com
  • - GoArticles.com
  • - Searchwarp.com

Some final thoughts. Always submit your articles with a copyright notice. Also, submit your article with Reprint privileges granted. This step alone could expand your traffic. Many print sources are looking for material. Allowing someone to re-print your article increases your chances for thousands to see your article. The more people that read your article the more traffic you will generate to your site.

To review

  • - Write an article.
  • - Submit the article to an article submission site.
  • - Monitor your increase in traffic.
  • - Copyright your article.
  • - Allow re-printing of your article.
